CREW

One of a four part series of commercials for the music licensing company, Soundstripe. The idea for these commercials was to start off looking like a scene from a movie and then an inciting incident takes place which disrupts the scene and takes the viewer “out” of the moment, breaking the fourth wall. For this one in particular, we wanted the scene to feel like a romantic diner where the couple is about to have their first kiss when it all goes wrong: the breaker busts and lights go out on set. This meant a very unique lighting challenge since I had to take into account lighting the scene initially but also create a shift and capture the affect of “lights out” without having the scene go pitch black. We ended up with an obvious shift in color tone, using soft warm tones to start the romantic scene and then cutting quick to cold tones when the breakers flip, set loses power, and reality for the viewer sets in.
